As new roads were built, paved or found since the 2nd Edition of The Complete Guide to Climbing By Bike (Nationwide Guide) was published, below are updates for several categories.
100 Most Difficult Climbs - 4 new climbs were found that now rank in the top 100 (5 others had the pavement extended or bike access granted). Of these 9, 8 are new to the top 100 most difficult climbs which means #92 in the current book is now #100.
10. Waipoli Road, HI - the state paved its upper half since I visited, a monster climb
13. Powder Mountain, UT - the ski resort at its top extended the pavement, even more difficult now
28. Maggie Valley Country Club, NC - A 13% average grade monster was well hidden within the trees
49. Castle Valley/Gateway, UT - I just missed the upper section of this big hill previously
51. Hicks Road North/Mt Umunhum, CA - the upper 1.0 miles of this one opened to bikes several yrs ago
64. Hicks Road South/Mt Umunhum, CA - for the same reasons as the above climb
71. Gaddis Branch Road, NC - a brand new, super steep road in western NC
85. Eagles Nest, NC - I just missed this very solid climb
86. Dogwood/Mountain/Summit Drive, NC - The steepest test you will find was hidden in thick woods

2. Rich Cove Road, NC (mile 0.5-1.5) - 17.0%

1. Waipi'o Valley Road, HI (mile 0.1-0.6) - 23.4%
2. Kingsley Hill Road, MA (mile 0.0-0.5) - 19.2%
3. Summit Drive, NC (mile 0.2-0.7) - 18.6%

1. Dogwood/Mountain/Summit Drive, NC - 14.7%
2. Old Priest Grade, CA - 13.1%
3. Maggie Valley Country Club, NC - 13.0%
